What is a hoodoo? How is a hoodoo formed?

A hoodoo is a tall, thin rock column with a flat top. They are formed by erosion. Over time, many different things hit the rock, ranging from snow to water and wind, slowly shaping it into a hoodoo.

The hoodoos in Bryce Canyon have a bright orange color that will take your breath away.

Hoodoos can be found in quite a few areas in the southwest USA, but if you want to see a lot in a small space, then Bryce Canyon National Park is the perfect place to go.

Where to See Hoodoos in Bryce Canyon

Sunrise Point

☀️ This spot is perfect for seeing hoodoos without much of a walk, as it’s not far from the parking lot.

Sunrise Point is one of the most popular viewpoints in Bryce Canyon National Park, and for good reason! This spot offers stunning views of hoodoos in every direction. The hoodoos at Sunrise Point are some of the most impressive in the morning, so be sure to bring your camera!

There are several hiking trails that depart from Sunrise Point, so it’s easy to explore the area further. Whether you’re looking for a short hike or a longer adventure, Sunrise Point is the perfect place to start.

If you’re visiting Bryce Canyon during the summer months, be sure to arrive early to Sunrise Point. The sun can be quite intense at this altitude, and you’ll want to beat the heat! Hoodoo viewing is best in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is low in the sky.

Rainbow Point

In addition, Rainbow Point also offers a great view of the surrounding area. From this vantage point, you can see all of Bryce Canyon and get a good idea of its size and scale. This is a great spot to take photos or just sit and enjoy the view.

Finally, Rainbow Point is a great spot to see Bryce Canyon hoodoos because it is easily accessible. There is a paved road that leads right up to the point, making it easy to get to. There are also plenty of parking spots available, so you won’t have to worry about finding a place to park.

Bryce Point

Bryce Point is one of the most popular places to see hoodoos in Bryce Canyon. The views from Bryce Point are incredible, and you can see an endless sea of hoodoos!

Sunrise and sunset are the best times to see hoodoos at this spot in particular. The light at these times of the day creates a magical atmosphere and the hoodoos look even more amazing. The colors of the hoodoos at Bryce Point are simply stunning. From the orange hues of sunset to the deep reds and purples of twilight, the hoodoos are a feast for the eyes.

Plus, what’s even better is that Bryce Point is one of the top places to photograph hoodoos in Bryce Canyon. Seriously, don’t forget your camera when heading here. The Under the Rim Trail also starts here.

One thing to keep in mind is that Bryce Point has been known to be filled with little animals like squirrels. Keep an eye out for them, and keep your food locked in your car!

Queen’s Garden Trail

👸 The Queen’s Garden Trail is perfect for those wanting to go on a hike in Bryce Canyon while also getting up close to the hoodoos.

One of the best places to see hoodoos in Bryce Canyon is the Queen’s Garden Trail. This trail takes you through some of the most beautiful hoodoos in the park. The trail is only about 1.8 miles long, but it is a great way to see some of the most incredible hoodoos in the park.

The Queen’s Garden Trail is an easy trail beginning at Sunrise Point, and it normally takes around 2 hours to hike it. Along the trail, get up close to some of the hoodoos as you walk right beside them.

Similar to other trails, you’ll want to start this one in the early morning. It can get really hot down on the canyon floor. Take it from me!

Fairyland Loop

🧚 For those looking for a challenge, the Fairyland Loop is the perfect option for seeing Bryce Canyon hoodoos.

The Fairyland Loop Trail in Bryce Canyon is one of the top spots to see hoodoos because of its unique views. The trail takes you through a large number of hoodoos, many of which are quite tall. This gives you an up close and personal look at these interesting rock formations.

The trail is about 8 hours long and is rated as difficult, so it’s best for experienced hikers. It will be hard to complete this hike if you don’t start in the early morning, so be prepared. Also, bring lots of water and snacks!

In total, this hike normally takes around 5 hours, though that’s not accounting for any breaks. It starts up at Sunrise Point.

In addition, the trail offers great views of Bryce Canyon itself. This makes it a perfect spot for anyone who wants to get the most out of their Bryce Canyon experience.

Inspiration Point

💡 For a great viewpoint with breathtaking hoodoo views, head to Inspiration Point.

Inspiration Point is one of the best spots in Bryce Canyon to see hoodoos because it offers an incredible panoramic view of the entire canyon! The view here looks out to Silent City.

Out of all the places to see Bryce Canyon hoodoos, Inspiration Point is one of our favorites because you can truly see so many at once.

One thing to keep in mind is that Inspiration Point is one of the most dangerous spots to view the hoodoos in the park because the rocks here are super crumbly. Do not step off the viewing platform, and be sure to keep your distance from the edge.

Rim Trail

👣 For a flat, long trail with great viewpoints, consider trekking the Rim Trail.

The Rim Trail is one of the best spots to see Bryce Canyon hoodoos because it provides visitors with an up-high personal view of these incredible natural rock formations.

The trail winds its way along the edge of the canyon, providing hikers with stunning views of the hoodoos below. The trail itself is super long at around 11 miles, but even just hiking a portion of it can be great.

A lot of this trail is exposed, so be sure to bring along lots of water and wear your sunscreen to stay protected.

Tower Bridge

🌉 Starting at Sunset Point, the trail that leads to Tower Bridge has some of the more unique Bryce Canyon hoodoos.

When it comes to seeing hoodoos in Bryce Canyon, the hike to Tower Bridge is one of the best spots. This spot offers up incredible views of the hoodoos, as well as the surrounding canyon. It’s a great place to take photos and just enjoy the natural beauty of Bryce Canyon.

The hike to Tower Bridge is about 3 miles long and takes a few hours to complete. Many people will finish this trail and continue on to the Fairyland Loop. This out-and-back trail has just shy of 1000 feet of elevation change, so be sure to pack lots of water.

Hat Shop

🎩 The Hat Shop is one of the most fun hoodoos in Bryce Canyon!

One of the best spots to see hoodoos in Bryce Canyon is the Hat Shop. The Hoodoos here are some of the most unique in the park, and they’re incredibly photogenic.

The light hits them just right in the late afternoon, making for some truly stunning sunset shots. If you’re looking for a place to get that perfect photo of Bryce Canyon, the Hat Shop is definitely the place to be!

The hike to the Hat Shop can be fairly steep, so be prepared and wear your best hiking shoes. It’s about four miles round trip and is not a loop trail, so you’ll follow your path back. Once at the Hat Shop, you’ll see where it got its name; it looks like hats made of rocks that are balancing on the hoodoos!

Navajo Loop Trail

🥾 This popular trail is one that you can’t miss, and it’s ideal for seeing hoodoos within a short period of time.

The Navajo Loop Trail is one of the most popular trails in Bryce Canyon for a reason: it has some of the best views of hoodoos in the park.

Starting at Sunset Point, this trail takes you down into the heart of Bryce Amphitheater, where you’ll see towering hoodoos up close. The loop portion of the trail takes you back up near the Two Bridges, making this an easy hike that’s perfect for all skill levels.

This hike is about 1.5 miles long and takes an hour or two to complete. Note that some parts of the hike do have steep drop-offs, so be safe and wear sturdy hiking shoes with good grip to be as safe as possible.

The Wall Street portion of this trail is breathtaking. I recommend descending on this side and ascending on the side with the Two Bridges. On your way up, look out for the popular Thor’s Hammer hoodoo!

If you have extra time, consider taking the Peekaboo Loop Trail onto this one. We did and loved it, but it definitely makes you tired!

Sunset Point

If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience while visiting Bryce Canyon, make sure to check out Sunset Point! This is one of the best spots to see hoodoos in the canyon, and it’s truly a sight to behold.

The hoodoos here are some of the tallest and most impressive in Bryce Canyon, and they glow a beautiful orange hue as the sun sets. It’s located right near Sunrise Point, but the view is completely different.

The walk to Sunset Point is short from the parking lot. If you’re doing any of the hikes in Bryce, it’s possible that you’ll start right here.
