Urban Angel

📍 121 Hanover St, Edinburgh EH2 1DJ, United Kingdom

When it comes to breakfast in Edinburgh, you can’t miss out on Urban Angel. Located on Hanover Street, this is one of the top spots to grab organic and local breakfast dishes. The restaurant itself is hard to miss, with its Instagram-worthy exterior.

They serve all-day brunch with a wide variety of dishes, including eggs benedict, hummus on sourdough toast, brioche french toast, and even acai smoothie bowls. They also have tons of cocktails, coffees, smoothies, spirits, tea, and more that you can pair with your breakfast dish.

Southern Cross Cafe

Another great Edinburgh breakfast spot is Southern Cross Cafe. They’re known for their incredible cakes and delicious coffee, and they’re also open all day. The location is incredible because it’s located right near the Royal Mile, so it will most likely be fairly central to wherever you’re staying in Edinburgh.

Their menu is extensive, and they have tons of tasty breakfast dishes. They have regular breakfasts like eggs benedict, classic Scottish breakfast, and yogurt and granola. However, they also have tasty french croissants, ham and chees croissants, and even bacon and brie ones.

The Pantry

For their breakfast menu, they mostly have a wide variety of full plates, ranging from their pantry fry to their no small fry. They also have hot-filled rolls, waffles, eggs benedict, and others. On the side, they also offer their breakfast chips as well as a nacho version.

The City Cafe

Located near the Royal Mile, The City Cafe, is more of an old-school breakfast place that has heavily American influences. If you’ve ever been to an American diner, this is about the closest you can get while in Edinburgh. They have quite a lively atmosphere.

They serve all-day breakfasts, including everything you could possibly think of. There’s a full Scottish breakfast, vegan pancakes, sweet Belgian waffles, eggs royale, eggs benedict, and also sweeter options like french toast. If you visit later in the day, their menu also extends to sandwiches and burgers for lunch.

Papii

One of the best coffee shops in Edinburgh is Papii. They’re well known for their amazing drinks, but they have some tasty food too. The majority of the items on their cafe menu are Mediterranean-inspired with local ingredients.

The food on the menu at Papii is super unique. For instance, they have a banana, honey, and cream buttermilk waffles as well as bacon and sausage rolls with ketchup or brown sauce. Other items on their menu include sandwiches, yogurts, and bagels.

Loudons Fountainbridge

Next up is Loudons Fountainbridge. It’s in the financial district and has been open since 2011. If you’re in the mood for brunch in Edinburgh, this is an incredible place to go, and all of their food is Instagram-worthy.

Their menu changes throughout the year depending on the season but normally includes cakes, pancakes, toast, eggs benedict, bowls, and regular breakfast plates. They also have a wide variety of coffees, including cappuccinos and flat whites, and everything in between.

Scotts Kitchen

The breakfast menu at Scotts Kitchen is impeccable, featuring great dishes like “the Scotts veggie breakfast,” house benedicts, and “toasted au gourmand sourdough.” They also have baked goods, alcoholic drinks, and juices for you to start the day off however you’d like.

Salt Cafe

The Salt Cafe is a modern and family-friendly artisanal breakfast spot located in Edinburgh. They even won the best cafe award from the Edinburgh Evening News Restaurant Awards in 2022, so you know their food is tasty.

They use seasonal ingredients that are sourced from local supplies. Breakfast is available all day, and they have items like butcher’s breakfast, Croque madame, steak and eggs, and eggs benedict. They also have sweeter items like pancakes, porridge, and lost bread.

The Coffee Mill Cafe

The Coffee Mill Cafe is one of the more underrated breakfast spots in Edinburgh, with a black and green exterior. They have high-quality dishes at affordable prices and a friendly staff that will make you feel incredibly welcomed.

Their menu is simple but great, with full Scottish breakfast, full British breakfast, Mediterranean breakfast, Scottish porridge, and cheeses and beans on toast as just a few samplings. There are also bagels, sides, and morning rolls, along with every type of coffee and smoothie.

Hula Juice Bar & Healthy Eatery

📍 Multiple locations in Edinburgh

With locations in both Grassmarket and Fountainbridge, Hula Juice Bar & Healthy Eatery is one of the best places for breakfast in Edinburgh! They are definitely the most Instagrammable place to eat if that’s what you’re on the hunt for.

The menu is super large, featuring everything from full breakfasts to Scottish oats and even signature smoothie bowls. Everything on the menu is rather affordable, too. Of course, they also have drinks, including coffee, tea, juices, and smoothies.

No matter what you eat here, you’ll definitely leave feeling super refreshed. It’s one of the great breakfast places in Edinburgh for a reason!

Inside the Hula Juice Bar & Healthy Eatery, there’s a tropical vibe that will truly make you forget you’re in the middle of Edinburgh. Sometimes it can get busy, but the wait is worth it for the great breakfast items.
