Europe has some of the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve ever seen. While studying abroad in Dublin and living there for five months, I was able to explore all around Europe, catching the sunset in city after city.

Exploring Europe doesn’t have to just be about trying to visit as many cobblestone streets as possible! Many European travelers fail to visit cities known for some of the best sunsets in Europe.

Florence, Italy

Florence is stunning, whether you visit during the day or night. But of course, you can’t beat an Italian sunset!

One of the best places to watch the sun go down is Piazzale Michelangelo. Here, you can catch panoramic views of the entire city while the sky changes into beautiful colors. To really get the entire Italian feel, you can sip some wine or even pack a picnic!

Barcelona, Spain

When most people are thinking about visiting Barcelona, they don’t consider all the amazing beaches accessible from the city. These sometimes underrated beaches are where you can catch one of the best beach sunsets in Europe that you’ll surely never forget. 

But if you’d rather spend time in the city, Park Guell is the place to be! Barcelona is covered in art by Guell, but this park is a treat for the eyes. To really soak it up, plan to visit the park in the evening and stay to watch the sunset over the city and ocean below. 

Dublin, Ireland

There’s something special about northern Europe sunsets! Especially when the skies become colorful, they can make any cold day worth it. Whether you’re visiting the coast for the day or staying in the city, you’ll find a great sunset to write home about. 

For our favorite view of Dublin, head to Ha’penny Bridge! Here, you can catch the golden hour rays across the historic streets. Bonus points if this is done with a beer in hand! 

Vienna, Austria

If you get a chance to mix a sunset with incredible architecture, you should take it! At the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, you can do just that. As the sun dips behind the Palace, it makes Vienna a contender for one of the best sunsets in the world. 

When you’re planning a trip here, keep in mind that visiting the Palace can be an all-day event! Plan on exploring the Palace in the afternoon before heading outside to check out the gardens and catch the sunset.

Sicily, Italy

Lisbon, Portugal

Oslo, Norway

One of the best places to catch the sunset in Oslo is from the Ekeberg Restaurant. So go ahead and treat yourself to a nice dinner here with incredible views of the sun reflecting off the water and hills in the distance.

If you don’t feel like heading to dinner, you can catch views of the sunset from the Opera House. Oslo’s Opera House is right on the water’s edge. And anytime a sunset is mixed with a waterfront view, you’re bound to see something beautiful. 

Ibiza, Spain

Over the Mediterranean, you’ll see the sky transform! This restaurant is right on the beach, meaning you’ll get incredible views of the water!

Paris, France

Anywhere in Paris, you can see the Eiffel Tower at sunset, which is going to be a great one. To get one of the best views, head up to Montmartre.

On this hill, you’ll find sweeping views of the city and can even explore the Basilica of the Sacré-Coeur. You should know that this destination is very popular, so plan accordingly! 

Bled, Slovenia

For a sunset you’ll want to see again and again, you’ve got to add Bled Castle to your Slovenia bucket list. The castle is situated on a cliff overlooking the lake.

And if you time it right, when the sun hits the castle, it’s breathtaking! From here, there are even views of the Alps in the background! Basically, you can’t go wrong catching one of the best sunsets in the world here. 

London, England

There are so many cool places to watch the sun go down in England’s capital. And The Shard is one of them.

One of the most interesting architectural pieces in London has a viewing platform with sights over the River Thames. From up there, you can see all of the city’s iconic buildings and landmarks that make London a top tourist destination.

The Shard even has floors dedicated to bars and restaurants so you can enjoy a meal or a drink while watching the sun go down. 

Buckie, Scotland

In Buckie, you’ll find where the North Sea meets the Scottish coast.

One of the most stunning sunsets you’ll find here is by Strathlene Beach. It’s a rocky beach area, which makes it a dramatic place for a coastal sunset.
