On our website you will find a mix of walking guides, romantic getaways, road trips, and dog friendly itineraries. We hope to see you on the road!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING FOR? WHY’D YOU DECIDE TO START A TRAVEL BLOG?
We have been blogging for around 5 years now. We got started when we moved to Ecuador and Steven began writing about his experiences in a new country on his own website. When we saw an uptick in the audience beyond our friends and family, we thought why not start a travel blog and Travel to Blank was born.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR NEW TRAVEL BLOGGERS/ASPIRING TRAVEL BLOGGERS?
While it is important to keep on learning new ideas and better ways to run a travel blog, make sure to learn SEO and keyword tactics when starting out. You do not want to produce a ton of content and then realize there are simple steps to rank better on Google.
WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WISH YOU KNEW BEFORE YOU STARTED TRAVELING?
One thing we wish we knew before we started traveling is that it is that it is ok to skip a top attraction in a destination if it doesn’t really interest you. We do not have endless time to travel and need to choose what we have time to see so we can really enjoy it.
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO TRAVEL?
Travel gives us new ways to connect with and learn from communities from around the world.
WHAT’S YOUR BEST AND WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE?
The best travel experience had to be waking up before dawn to be one of the first visitors in Machu Picchu for the day. Getting photos with little to no visitors is fantastic as the site quickly fills up each morning.
Our worst travel experience has to be getting robbed in our hostel. In one moment we were out our passports, visas, camera, engagement ring, cell phone and a month worth of photos. Since we were studying in Spain at the time it took months of waiting and paperwork to get our student visas back and ultimately cost us $7,000 in loss.
DO YOU PREFER SOLO TRAVEL OR TRAVELING WITH OTHER PEOPLE? WHY?
We are a traveling couple, so prefer traveling together, so we can experience together and grow together, strengthening our relationship.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE EVER BEEN TO? WHY?
Our favorite place we have been to is Budapest as we feel like we are stepping into a fairy tale with its breathtaking architecture.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST TRAVEL TIP?
Our biggest tip is to always plan for the worst, but expect the best. The longer you travel the question is not if something will go wrong, but when. Any additional planning eases a stressful time when your travel plans start to unravel.
IS THERE ONE SPECIFIC THING YOU LIKE TO DO, SEE, OR BUY IN EVERY PLACE THAT YOU VISIT?
We used to collect a shot glass from each destination, However longer trips with bulky and fragile items did not always end well. At the same time we now have a box full of shot glasses with no good way to display yet.
IS THERE ONE PARTICULAR FOOD THAT YOU’VE TRIED WHILE TRAVELING THAT YOU LOVED? WHAT FOOD WAS IT AND WHY DO YOU LOVE IT SO MUCH?
The one food we cannot get enough of is Perogies in Poland. This simple dish is simply delicious!
Plane or train? Train.
Hotel or hostel? Private room in a hostel, it’s cheaper than a hotel.
City or nature? Nature because we love hiking!
Popular site or off the beaten path? A bit of both please.
Suitcase or backpack? Backpack. Ever tried dragging a suitcase down a cobblestone street?
Fast travel or slow travel? We never have enough time to travel as slow as we would hope.
Professional camera or iPhone photography? Smartphones take mighty fine quality photos these days.
Warm or cold weather? Cold. You can always put on another layer of clothing.
