When Dorothy and her little dog Toto are caught in a tornado, they and their Kansas farmhouse are suddenly transported to Oz, where Munchkins live, monkeys fly and Wicked Witches rule. Desperate to return home, and with the Wicked Witch of the West on their trail, Dorothy and Toto - together with new friends the Tin Woodsman, Scarecrow and cowardly Lion - embark on a fantastic quest along the Yellow Brick Road in search of the Emerald City. There they hope to meet the legendary, all-powerful Wizard of Oz, who alone may hold the power to grant their every wish.

Just as captivating as it was a hundred years ago, this is a story that all ages will love.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is yet another lovely childhood classic I got the chance to read in my Children’s Literature class I took while studying abroad in Dublin. As a kid, I was gifted a special edition of the entire Wizard of Oz series, so I’d read this book quite often as a kid. I was excited to go back and read it again!

However, because of that, I don’t think I enjoyed it as much. Since I knew everything that was going to happen, I found myself bored and had to push myself through a bit. Don’t get me wrong – this book is surely a classic – but I found it a little difficult at times to enjoy what I was reading when I could have spent my time reading something completely new! Luckily, it was such a short read that I did get through pretty quickly.

I will say, rereading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz made me want to go watch the movie again!
