Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
Yet she spares Cas's life.
Anna Dressed in Blood was extremely creepy yet beautifully wonderful at the same time. I absolutely loved Cas. It was so cool that he traveled around just searching for different dead beings to put to rest. It definitely reminded me of the show Supernatural in a good way, which was so great because I love that show. I found Cas’s father’s back story to be really interesting as well.
Anna was the creepiest ghost. I felt bad for her tons of times though, especially because she wasn’t always in control of what she was doing. It definitely made me want to help her stop herself even though she couldn’t! The relationship between Anna and Cas was wonderfully great. I loved the both of them and they made wonderful friends.
I absolutely love that this book is part of a duology instead of a series. It’s great to know that I don’t have to purchase another 2-5 books just to finally figure out what happens. I just have to purchase one more and sadly that will be the end! I’m not sure if I’m ready to lose all of these wonderful characters once and for all.
This book was quite horrific considering that it’s only a young adult novel. I absolutely loved that about this book! It didn’t hold back on any gory or gross details that most young adult books do. This is definitely a horror novel, if you know what I mean. It’s perfect for Halloween or any time that you’re interested in not sleeping at night, because boy will this book keep you up! I’ve heard that the sequel, Girl of Nightmares, is even better. I can’t wait to get my hands on it and finally give it a read!
She’s my purpose and we’re going to save each other. We’re going to save everyone. And then I’m going to convince her that she’s supposed to stay here. With me.
You make me want things I can’t have.
I’ve seen most of what there is to be afraid of in this world, and to tell you the truth, the worst of them are the ones that make you afraid in the light. The things that your eyes see plainly and can’t forget are worse than huddled black figures left to the imagination. Imagination has a poor memory; it slinks away and goes blurry. Eyes remember for much longer.
