Welcome to today’s installment in my new travel blogger interview series! The goal of this weekly series is to help spread the blogging love and introduce you to some other awesome travel bloggers! Any travel blogger, whether new or experienced, can sign up to be featured in this new series. Today I’m happy to share that I’m featuring Adriana from Czech the World.

Adriana and Matěj are Czech travel bloggers behind the Czech the World, who started their blogging career during their gap year in New Zealand. They have met each other in 2012 and they have been traveling together ever since. They have spent several months by working holiday and exchange programs in different countries and places like the UK, Alaska, Yellowstone, South Korea, Malaysia, Finland, or Crete.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING FOR? WHY’D YOU DECIDE TO START A TRAVEL BLOG?

We have started writing as a hobby in 2017, however it was mainly just for our friends and family. That was also the reason to start the blog – everybody was asking about our travels.  We took it to the next level in January 2019 when we moved for a year to New Zealand, quit our jobs, and started working full time on our blog. Our main motivation for becoming full-time bloggers was the freedom which it gives you – simply being your own boss.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR NEW TRAVEL BLOGGERS/ASPIRING TRAVEL BLOGGERS?

Prepare for a long journey. It’s not easy nor fast and it won’t work unless you treat it like a real business. On the other hand – if you like to share your travel stories with your friends, setting up the blog is super easy, and travel writing is not only a nice hobby but it will keep your memories always fresh!

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WISH YOU KNEW BEFORE YOU STARTED TRAVELING?

I think there is not a thing like this. Maybe it’s good to know that once you start traveling, you can’t stop! Traveling is highly addictive.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO TRAVEL?

We both love to travel because we love discovering new places and cultures. I think it’s human nature to be hungry for learning, and traveling is constant learning.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST AND WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE?

The best travel experience for me was seeing the Northern lights dancing all around the night sky. It’s the most magical thing I have ever seen and I don’t think I will ever see something better except for even better Northern lights.

For Matěj it’s Couchsurfing! We have been hosted by more than 15 different hosts and every single one of them was amazing! The highlight were our New Zealand hosts, where we have spent our first week after arrival. They were caring about us like we were their children. Many people were saying that they struggled after arrival with all the paperwork, buying a car, etc. It was so much easier for us because our amazing hosts helped us with everything.

About the worst travel experience, I can’t say there was a single country we didn’t enjoy. I would just rather not visit Manila, which is an incredibly dirty city. The Philippines are amazingly beautiful but I would rather avoid the capital city. Just go straight away to nature.

DO YOU PREFER SOLO TRAVEL OR TRAVELING WITH OTHER PEOPLE? WHY?

As we are a couple for more than 8 years, we haven’t had many chances to travel solo, although there we some solo trips we did. The main difference is when you are traveling solo, you get to know and interact with many more people. So most of the time we travel just two of us alone, but if we have a chance – we love to travel with friends, it’s much more fun!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE EVER BEEN TO? WHY?

It’s very hard to choose just one place, every country is beautiful in a different way. If I have to choose, I would say the United States, Norway, and New Zealand in no particular order. All these three countries have unbelievable nature! Yellowstone and other national parks on the west coast of the USA are just stunning. Alaska is amazing because it’s pure virgin nature with almost no people. Fjords in Norway are simply spectacular, we’ve been there just for 3 weeks and it’s one of the top places on our bucket list to return again. New Zealand is amazing because they have everything! Beautiful beaches, monumental snowy mountains, massive glaciers, thermal areas with geysers, imposing fjords, or unique fauna and flora.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST TRAVEL TIP?

If you want to learn more about the local culture or meet locals – do Couchsurfing! And in case you are not sure if to go somewhere or not – just don’t wait and go! You don’t have money? Traveling is cheaper than you might think and you can work during your trips. You don’t know the language? There is no better way to learn than living in a foreign country. You don’t have anyone to travel with? Travel solo! You will have even more opportunities to meet amazing people than traveling as a couple. And something practical – if you want to save money, order a Revolut card, which is the best card for traveling with the best Exchange rates.

IS THERE ONE SPECIFIC THING YOU LIKE TO DO, SEE, OR BUY IN EVERY PLACE THAT YOU VISIT?

We have to photograph every place we visit and it’s simple – the more we like the place the more photos we have. For example, we did about 30 000 photos during that 1 year in New Zealand. We also quite often buy postcards for our wall but we are not strict that we have to have a postcard from every place.

IS THERE ONE PARTICULAR FOOD THAT YOU’VE TRIED WHILE TRAVELING THAT YOU LOVED? WHAT FOOD WAS IT AND WHY DO YOU LOVE IT SO MUCH?

We both love Thai cuisine, but if I should pick one special thing, then it is a moose steak we tried when we were working on a horse ranch in Alaska. The meat was so delicious, much better, and juicy than beef.

Fast travel or slow travel? Slow travel

Professional camera or phone photography? DSLR camera always

Warm or cold weather? Cold weather, because you can always add some layers, but it doesn’t work the other way.
