Interview with Myrtianna from Myrtiworld | Travel Blogger Interview Series

Welcome to today’s installment in my new travel blogger interview series! The goal of this weekly series is to help spread the blogging love and introduce you to some other awesome travel bloggers! Any travel blogger, whether new or experienced, can sign up to be featured in this new series. Today I’m happy to share that I’m featuring Myrtianna from Myrtiworld!

I grew up in Athens. I studied in the English countryside where I made friends that I’ll have for a life. I worked in one of the most amazing cities of the world, London. I left London for a little Italian village in South Tyrol to discover more about my love for wines, my love for nature and love in general.

Myrtiworld is about places that make you smile. It is where I share my favourite moments and places. It’s more about different places or experiences rather than mainstream locations. Myrtiworld is about travel inspiration, colourful destinations, and special moments.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING FOR? WHY’D YOU DECIDE TO START A TRAVEL BLOG?

Myrtiworld was officially created almost a year ago. I was always fascinated by the beauty in the little things that is often overlooked. I wanted to share this beauty not only with other fellow travellers out there but also with people that don’t have the chance to physically travel. I wanted to give them the opportunity to travel through my photos and my words and explore the world through my eyes.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR NEW TRAVEL BLOGGERS/ASPIRING TRAVEL BLOGGERS?

Be true to yourself. Don’t blog because you want to be famous, blog about something you really believe in.

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WISH YOU KNEW BEFORE YOU STARTED TRAVELING?

I wish I was a bit more open-minded from my very first trip. I started traveling at a very young age. I grew up in Greece and apart from exploring the Greek islands, my first international trip was all the way to Australia at the age of 10. I am not sure that back then I could appreciate all the unbelievably interesting things I came across.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO TRAVEL?

Meeting new cultures, hearing new accents, tasting new flavours, seeing the sunset in different places across the world makes me wiser. It makes me smile.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST AND WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE?

Honestly, I don’t think there is a worst travel experience. For sure, some trips have been better than others, but I always learn something from every trip so no bad travel experiences for me.

DO YOU PREFER SOLO TRAVEL OR TRAVELING WITH OTHER PEOPLE? WHY?

I am not a solo traveller. Solitude is one of the very few things that scare me. I love traveling with friends, family or my husband. I think sharing travel moments and new experiences with people you love is something priceless.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE EVER BEEN TO? WHY?

It is Sifnos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is all about the energy of this place. It is the sound of the waves while I am taking an afternoon nap. It is the sea salt on my skin. It is having barefoot lunches on the beach. It is the moon reflections on the sea. It is the beauty of simplicity. Sifnos is all the above and much more.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST TRAVEL TIP?

Plan your own trips. Avoid group trips. Independent traveling is not only more fun, and it allows you to truly explore the non-touristy parts, but it also makes you more responsible and a great problem-solver!

IS THERE ONE SPECIFIC THING YOU LIKE TO DO, SEE, OR BUY IN EVERY PLACE THAT YOU VISIT?

No matter which place I visit or for how long, there is always one place I must explore: a supermarket or a food store. Food is a fundamental part of any culture. And what I find on the selves of a supermarket tells me a lot about the people and the place itself. You get to see locals doing their grocery shopping; you get to know what type of flavours they prefer, and you manage to understand a lot about their everyday life patterns. Then, I love buying a magazine or a newspaper. I still have a newspaper from my trip to Japan. I can’t really read it – to be honest I am still not sure which is the front, and which is the back cover- but it still tells me a story, a story of the country itself.

IS THERE ONE PARTICULAR FOOD THAT YOU’VE TRIED WHILE TRAVELING THAT YOU LOVED? WHAT FOOD WAS IT AND WHY DO YOU LOVE IT SO MUCH?

I am a huge fan of Khinkali, a Georgian dish which I ate in a Georgian restaurant in St. Petersburg. It is a Georgian version of a dumpling. I love the simplicity in it. You should eat Khinkali using only your hands. This is the only way to fully enjoy it. If you use fork and knife you lose the best part of it: the juice!
