As soon as I heard this book, I knew it was one that would break my heart. I even started to see countless reviews about how sad but amazing the story was. I have to say, it was definitely heartbreaking, but it was worth the read.
The story follows quite a few characters, though each of them is involved with what’s going on. One character, Claire, is actually outside of the school when the shooter comes. She was at track practice during the assembly and takes it upon herself to try to get help with the rest of the track team. There’s also Autumn, who is in love with Sylv, another character in the book. The last character is Sylv’s brother, Tomas, who is kind of known as the bad boy in school and likes rebelling, though he does everything in his power to help save everyone once he realizes what’s going on, as he was stuck outside the auditorium.
I really enjoyed this story. I’ve never read a book about a school shooting, so it was incredibly scary to read at times. School is supposed to be a place where you learn, not where you have to fight for your life… especially at such a young age. I felt so bad for the characters and was biting my lip quite a lot as I was worried about what was going to happen. I was so close to crying at times because I came to love the characters so much.
Then there was also the whole shooter reveal (kind of early on) but I don’t want to spoil who it is for you. I was literally so surprised once all those connections were made and revealed to me. It’s so scary and sad to think about. The fact that just your average every day person could cause such a travesty anywhere is absolutely horrifying. This is Where it Ends is a tale worth reading. It’s sure to bring you heartbreak but it’s completely worth it.
